Many of you know that by day, I work as a marketing professional. And by night, I get to share all kinds of inspiration on food, recipes, wellness and healthy living with all of you!
Given that I work in a creative dynamic role, both professionally and personally, no day looks quite the same for me.
These last two weeks for example, I’ve been working from (my old) home in Montreal, getting cozy in my jogging pants & slippers, and making endless cups of tea.
When I’m in Toronto, I get to work in a modern, open concept, google-inspired office downtown, where I wear jeans and a tee every day.
When I’m working from my own home back in Toronto, that can take many forms. From my desk, to coffee shops to even my bed sometimes. Who doesn’t like a good comforter snuggle and Netflix distractions when working in bed?
Where am I going with this again?!
Oh ya! Getting creative and making over your workday!
One of the questions I get asked all the time is how I stay in shape while working so many hours.
And while my answer usually involves eating well and getting plenty of water and sleep, a key component is making sure I never get comfortable or fall into a routine.
Recently, I got the chance to get extra creative during my workday by collaborating with a brand that I simply adore; Joe Fresh. You might have seen the behind the scenes of the photoshoot I did with them on my instagram stories. It was SO cool!
On the shoot, Joe Fresh inspired me to get even more creative with my days.
One of the looks I was sporting was an athletic look from their new line, now available in stores.

When they were shooting me, I have to say I really felt like I embodied that “fit dude” magazine cover persona. Even though the furthest thing from it!
But it got me thinking about all the things we can do to stay active during the day and prevent ourselves from falling into a rut.
Here are some of the things I do to make sure I’m always making over my workdays:
Stretching / yoga poses first thing in the morning.
I usually take (re: make) time to get my morning stretches in. This gives my body some time to slowly wake up and get the blood flowing after a night of rest.
Ditch the coffee.
When it comes to daily ruts and routines, I have a lot of friends who can’t start their work day without a cup of coffee. So day after day, that becomes the start of their routines. The best way to break it, is to cut it out all together. You’ll feel so much better without it, I promise!
Have fun with your lunches.
On set at the Joe Fresh shoot, one of the President’s Choice® Cooking School chefs showed us how to make a refreshing layered mason jar salad! I thought this was such a neat way of getting creative and making over my typical leftover tupperware lunches.
Here’s a list of some of my favourite ingredients to use from the PC Organics line, but the great thing with a layered mason jar salad are all the options you have for the layers! My personal pro tip to making salads fun: use ingredients you actually enjoy eating. I like crushed walnuts and dried cranberries! <3

Taking breaks from my desk.
This one’s a no brainer, and everyone should be able to do it. The hardest part is remembering, or actually putting the work down for 5 minutes to just take a quick walk around the office.
Stretching on my lunch break.
Yep, my colleagues don’t know I do this but I usually take 5-10 minutes on my lunch to do my stretches in one of our private meeting rooms. I use the time to simply stretch, no fancy moves, just stretching. It helps clear my mind almost instantly and for the rest of the afternoon, I’m productive.
Going for a walk. Every. Single. Day.
Make the time for a walk during your long workday. Whether it’s 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or your whole lunch hour, just walk.
Squeeze in a 30 minute workout at some point in the day.
After work is when I try to set aside dedicated time to doing a proper workout. I find it so helpful with decompressing after a stressful day, and a great way to break out my day into chunks of time at work, and time away from work.
Sit on a yoga ball at your desk (if you can)
This is my best kept secret weapon when I work from home. I don’t have this privilege at my office (just yet), but when I work from home, sitting on my yoga ball is how I work my core all day long. The best part? It requires almost zero effort, and you don’t even feel like you’re getting a workout, you’re just sitting!
