I’m sure it comes as no surprise to anyone who’s ever met me that I have always loved Christmas!
Everything about it just tingles from the inside out!
The sight of towering evergreens all lit up. The smell of freshly mulled apple cider wafting through the home. And the sound of Frank Sinatra’s Christmas album playing in the background all have me at my happiest.
Christmas really is the most magical time of year!
And even though I know traditionally they span from the 13th to the 25th, I’m bringing you the 12 Days of Christmas early this year, just in the Nick, of time! 😉
Ever since I could remember, my favourite part of the holidays (after eating all the food, of course), was decorating the house!
I think I may’ve shared this story before, but as a child, my sister and I would argue over who got to hang a particular ornament on the tree. We also used to argue over who got to set the table.
Sidenote, we either used to argue over the silliest things, or my mom just had us trained very, very well. (Thumbs up if you’re reading, mom!)
As adults, now we argue over who gets to hold the baby (her baby). And when we entertain, I host in Toronto, she hosts in the US, or my mom hosts in Montreal. And each of us has our own unique festive style.
I chose to share this post with you today in the first of my 12 Days of Christmas, as a holiday hint to inspire your home decor and entertaining style!
If you’re hosting this year, the first step to take in preparing for the holiday season, is identifying your festive style!
Are you a classic christmas or contemporary? Modern, or rustic?
Holiday Hint! Identify your festive style!
In a holiday preview for President’s Choice and The Real Canadian Superstore earlier this year, this was our first step in setting a beautiful tablescape. So the inspiration for this post actually stems from them!
Defining your festive style can be tough. But once you have it on lock down, you’ll begin to gravitate toward decor items that complement that style.
For example, my festive style would be contemporary and rustic – and with an ode to mother nature. I just love fresh flowers and “earthy” things!
Birch sticks, pepper berries, pine cones, rustic twigs and fresh flowers. All things that come from the earth. And combined, they make for a beautiful centrepiece and statement piece for the table.
The centrepiece of florals in the Waterford crystal vase are from Tonic Blooms, which is one of my favourite flower delivery services in Toronto. You can order online, and have any arrangement delivered in just two hours. Hello!
To complement and elevate the rustic look, I added some pops of gold. The chargers beneath the plates are from this year’s holiday collection at President’s Choice & The Real Canadian Superstore.
I also added gold touches to the table with these great candles and candlestick holders from H&M Home! Modern, trendy and elegant. Me likey!
See what I mean about identifying your festive style first? Everything after that just comes together nicely!
I’m so excited to share the next 11 Days of Christmas with you! I’ll be sharing recipes, gift guides, personal stories and more holiday hints in the coming days!
I hope you enjoyed this first holiday hint of identifying your festive style, and I hope enjoy the next 11 Days of Christmas as much as I do – or maybe just a smidgen less 😉
Have you been able to lock down your festive style!? Share it with me below! And happy December 1st everyone! Wishing you a fun start to the festive season!
