If I asked you what your favourite time of year would be, what would come to mind?! Would it be the start of a new season, perhaps fall or spring?! Would it be the time of year where you go on holiday, or visit your long-distance family or friends?!
If you’re like me, these two months of November and December would be it! The time of year where the city lights up. Where the baristas are dressed in green and red, and where all of my childhood memories of my chocolate calendar, and the countdown to Christmas come flooding back!
This year, S and I are transforming the way we celebrate, by re-imagining classic holiday recipes with President’s Choice!
Have you popped into a Loblaws or Provigo recently?! If you have, then you’ve likely seen some of the new President’s Choice foods and decorative holiday treats. I can share with you that when S and I last did our groceries, we were both going nuts over some new finds!
Did you know that PC has an entire collection of delicious bites that are imported from Italy? Some of our favourites are the Olive Oil & Rosemary Focaccia Crackers and the Holiday Chocolate Truffles – BOTH from Italy.
While I’ll admit that yes, I love the food, what I love most about President’s Choice, is their constant innovation and launching of new products that make the holiday season effortless for me. As I was on a mission to #DiscoverPC, there wasn’t one item I found that I didn’t like.
Some of the ways that PC has inspired me to add a twist to the holidays this season (and ways you can mix things up at home) are:
1. Elevating your pasta dishes
I was so excited to find cauliflower-stuffed ravioli from President’s Choice, as I’m always looking for different ways of getting my veggie intake. I also love that this is a fully vegetarian option (depending on the sauce you go with) to serve any of your vegetarian guests!
I decided to add an extra twist by using a homemade pesto recipe to go with the pasta vs a traditional tomato / meat sauce. The flavour of the cauliflower was subtle enough not to take away from a pasta’s main star; the sauce! So it worked out perfectly!
The pasta we used here was: PC Roasted Cauliflower Ravioli Traditional Italian Filled Egg Pasta
2. Transforming a Charcuterie into a “Sea-cuterie”
I recently had the chance to visit The Mobile Shop at the Loblaws on St Clair Ave W – which was absolutely stunning. The space is honestly, HUGE, and you can find almost anything you need in there! At The Mobile Shop – a few fellow bloggers and myself got together to share tips on food photography (one of my biggest passions) and that’s where I snapped the photo of this awesome “sea-cuterie!”
While snapping photos and munching on those dreamy focaccia crackers, we learned about all the services that The Mobile Shop offers its customers. Like the ability to set up a contract in-store with almost any major Canadian carrier. I was also happily surprised to learn about all the great offers available from buying your phone at The Mobile Shop!
And the way PC was able to just transform a traditional charcuterie into this simple, yet elevated seafood spread… genius! A definite must-try for me at home this season. And again, a great idea for all your non meat-eating friends!
3. Decorative, Decadent, Desserts
I must say, that of all the desserts I’ve had this year, this PC Chocolate Pecan Pie Bar definitely takes the cake! Or do they take the pie?! 😉
You’ll see that I actually cut the pie into individual portion sized pieces and began breaking the slices apart into smaller bite sized chunks. I found this to be a clever way of sharing the pie with friends or family, especially when everyone wants to sample a bit of everything. Finger foods are all the rage when we have dinner parties, so this was definitely a big hit!
How are you mixing things up at home this holiday season?!
