The Value of Having In-Home Medical Services

January 22, 2019 by Nick Joly Leave a Comment

mediseen at home medical services

Last month I booked an appointment for a certified yoga instructor to come to my home and guide me through a new method of yoga. If you follow my journey over on Instagram @inspiredbynick, then you may already know that the yoga studio I’ve subscribed to here in Toronto follows the Bikram method. It’s not my preferred approach to yoga if I’m being perfectly honest, but it is effective. It provides the challenging workout I’m looking for, while also leaving me feeling more enlightened, more ...

Why There’s No Such Thing as a Healthy Tan

January 14, 2019 by Nick Joly Leave a Comment

why-theres-no-such-thing-as-healthy-tan

A few years ago, I was traveling across Portugal with a close friend. We went, we saw, we conquered. Being on vacation, beach bum status was in full swing, and our tanning competition was on like donkey kong. Whoever could come back from the trip looking dark AF would win. (Raise your hand if you're guilty). Every morning we would scout for the perfect spot: maximum sun exposure + proximity to water. On the flight home we compared shades of brown and olive skin tones, and even asked the flight ...

Achieving Mental Clarity + Putting Mindfulness into Practice

January 3, 2019 by Nick Joly Leave a Comment

mental-clarity-mindfulness-inspired-by-nick

In the past I shared a post about a time in my life where I didn’t feel healthy. I was primarily referring to my physical health, my diet, and my general daily routines. In the post I talked about cleansing my life of toxins and negative energy from relationships that left me feeling drained. Today though, I realize how little attention I was paying to my mental health, being present, and finding calm in a storm of constant adrenal stimulation. It was so easy, almost autonomous, for me to fall ...

Avocados from Mexico & the True Benefits of Plant-Based Fats

December 17, 2018 by Nick Joly Leave a Comment

vegan-buddha-bowl-avocados-from-mexico-COVER

There are a number of people I know who equate the colder months of the year to "bulking season”. Whether or not the connection between the two is made intentionally, it is in fact, fact!  I’ve read studies from Cornell and the Daily Mail UK that show men and women in North America and the UK tend to gain anywhere between 1.3 - 4.5 lbs during the winter season. Is it genetics? Or maybe our subconscious telling us to put on more weight to store for the winter? I can’t tell you that, but I do ...

10-Minute Chickpea Chilli Sin Carne Recipe (V, GF)

December 4, 2018 by Nick Joly 1 Comment

vegan-chickpea-chilli-recipe

From previous blog posts and YouTube videos I’ve shared, I think it comes as no surprise to anyone that I. Love. Comfort food! And chilli is no exception! A traditional chilli uses ingredients like ground beef, kidney beans, beef broth, etc. But a key ingredient to any chilli recipe is good quality, finely chopped tomatoes.  Recently Mutti Canada approached me to create a unique recipe featuring their Mutti Finely Chopped Tomatoes (Polpa). The catch, however, was to use five ingredients or ...

Are the Classes at Equinox Really Worth It? | *Honest Review*

November 28, 2018 by Nick Joly Leave a Comment

are-classes-at-equinox-really-worht-it

For those of you who’ve been following my fitness journey closely from losing 100+ lbs, to running the Scotiabank Toronto full marathon, you’ll know that my health and fitness are my priorities numero uno.  But after months of doing the same types of exercises at home, I decided my workout routine needed some spice.   As you may know, earlier this year when my heartmate and I left our condo and moved into our home in Toronto, we lost the building amenities such as our gym, steam room, yoga ...

Three Holiday Entertaining Ideas for the Health Conscious Friends This Season

November 13, 2018 by Nick Joly Leave a Comment

holiday-entertaining-ideas-serving-board-vegan

On the side of one of our kitchen cabinets is a sort of makeshift “chalkboard wall” if you will, that my heartmate and I built when we moved into our home earlier this year. We jot down some important information like “don’t forget to pay this bill by that date” or “organics disposals on Wednesday”. And, every so often with four tiny cuts of scotch tape, we hang up printable monthly calendars for the next upcoming months. This time, November & December. Oh boy. Holiday season is here, ...

String lights suspended above and an atmosphere conducive to great conversation. What more could ...

Vegan Pumpkin Soup Recipe | Pinterest-Worthy Fall Flavours

October 15, 2018 by Nick Joly Leave a Comment

Ahhhh, the pumpkin.  A symbol of autumn’s warm tones, halloween carvings, and festive fall flavours!  Every year around this time, my body always goes through a soup craze! You may have noticed this in my recent Indian Spiced Lentil Soup Recipe!  Give me lentils, give me vegetable broth, and in October, give me pumpkins!  Earlier this week I headed to a local pumpkin patch here in Ontario, Canada, with a friend (and fellow blogger), Soheila of @soheilaonline. Together we helped ...

Grocery shopping but 'leveled up' 💁🏻‍♂️🍄 y’all know that food shopping is basically my favourite hobby 😂. Over the past few weeks, I’ve told you about #MyHealthMyChoices by @MetroOntario and now I’m gonna show you just how easy it is to sort and find foods you love, while fitting within your dietary needs.
—
I always start in produce (naturally) and then jump straight to organic aisles for my fav snacks. Using the green labels in-store, I can identify (at a quick glance) which products are plant-based, vegan, or gluten-free. The My Health, My Choices program also allows me to scan product barcodes using the MyMetro app and search for exactly what I need, taking the whole experience to the next level 🙌🏼 ➡️ Swipe to see my shopping experience and what items I picked up at my local Metro. #Sponsored #MyMetro #Inspiredbynick
we’ve moved into our home 🏡 and we’re still we’ve moved into our home 🏡 and we’re still taking time to settle in. there are some projects we wanna get done asap but can’t due to lockdown, so we’re just gonna go with the flow and enjoy the ride together 👬🏻 ps, that photo is from 9 years ago on one of our first dates
When you’re craving a burger but you also want a When you’re craving a burger but you also want a #meatless option 🙌🏼🍔 Organic Black Bean Fiesta Burgers made by yours truly 🍔💁🏻‍♂️when I was vegan I really had to get creative with a lot of my recipes, otherwise I’d be eating the same old bean salad every day… and bean salad doesn’t really taste like a burger when you’re craving a burger! Even though I’m not fully vegan anymore, I do still like to swap out meat as much as possible with other #plantbased options because that’s what works for me!
With @metroontario's new program, MyHealth, MyChoices finding products that suit your dietary needs and lifestyles couldn't be easier. With almost 9,000 products labelled with nearly 50 different attributes like plant-based, fat-free, non-GMO, etc., you can easily find what works for you. So for this recipe, I looked for the green labels in-store, found the perfect Irresistibles organic black beans and extra virgin olive oil and whipped up a batch of patties that my heartmate and I devoured! (Tip: they also freeze well)! The recipe for them is on my blog (link in bio) and on Metro’s Instagram page and website! Hope you enjoy these if you decide to make them! #inspiredbynick #MyHealthMyChoices #mymetro #sponsored

At-home yoga for the winnn! 🧘🏻‍♂️🌿✨ because even though supporting my local yoga studio looks different now than in the past (classes are all online or through their app), I can still feel good about being a paying member and doing a small part to #supportlocal.
-
I am not THE poster child for supporting local, that’s just the truth, but I do what I can, where I can. Honestly, I do miss being in the hot studio where after a class I would be drenched and feeling so accomplished, ironically though, I’m surprisingly still drenched after a 90 min class at home, more so than I thought I would be! So I still feel good about getting my workout in, even if it’s different than being there in person.
-
Anyone who does yoga regularly like me knows a wet bag is essential after a good flow. The team at @forwardwithdesign have this awesome bag (I link to it in my stories) that I love--it’s super practical and I love the cute print! While I’m not getting as much use out of it as I’d like right now, it will definitely be coming with me to the studio when some of our restrictions lift and small businesses open up again!! AD #ForwardWithDesign #ThatsFWDThinking #InspiredbyNick
