When I was a little kiddo, I remember one of my all-time favourite snacks to be saltine cracker peanut-butter sandwiches.
My grandmother and I would sit in the living room and make them together, scooping up the peanut butter by the spoonful. (no one else in the family was allowed to eat in the living room, but I was the youngest grandchild, so you know).
Last week my heartmate and I had some friends over for a night of finger foods + board games.
We lead exciting lives, we know.
But I asked everyone who was over what their favourite snacks were growing up, and a lot of them said the same!
Now, I wasn’t going to start making and serving peanut butter cracker sandwiches, but I was going to try and think of an elevated version I could serve with what I had in the house.
Two of our friends had their kids over, so I needed something that everyone would like.
Trust me when I say the night got #lit as soon as I brought out the food. At least it was lit for me anyway, since I get excited whenever there’s food in a room.
I’m personally a big fan of fresh fruit, and dried fruit, too, come to think of it. So I pulled out some ingredients from the fridge and pantry, and started topping these Cherry-Cocoa and Banana-Cocoa Snacking Rounds from Ozery Bakery I knew everyone would enjoy.
These Cocoa Snacking Rounds from Ozery Bakery are really great, and so versatile. I would recommend warming them up first, either on a sheet in the oven, or over the toaster or better yet, in a toaster oven. When they’re fresh and warm, they’re so satisfying!
They really are perfect for any age. Kids love them because they’ve got this chocolate flavour – win. Parents love serving them because they’ve got fruit servings in them – win. And I love them because they’re entirely vegan, and non-GMO. Win win win!
I whipped up six different combinations, some I would re-make in a heartbeat, some not so much… Mainly the peanut butter + goji berries which I thought would be a hit, but wasn’t. Friends gave it a 3/10 for “mouth feel” – which, I don’t blame them I guess. I just love goji berries because of how powerfully packed with antioxidants they are. But when it came down to it, friends + kiddos voted, and that one was not a winner. But the rest were big hits!
Cherry + Banana Cocoa Snacking Rounds for the Whole Family
- Blueberry + peanut butter
- Raspberry jam + apricot
- Strawberry jam + cranberries
- Chocolate hazelnut spread (vegan nutella) + banana
- Peanut butter + goji berries
- Chocolate hazelnut spread (vegan nutella) + strawberries
These were a big hit at our last games night, and will likely make a reappearance when our friends come over, or when my sister and nephew come up for a visit in the future!
Let me know in the comments below if saltine crackers and peanut butter were a favourite of yours, too, growing up. And let me know which Snacking Round combo you think got the most votes!
