If you’re like me, by now you’ve mentally noted everything you need to buy this holiday season, but just haven’t gotten around to the actual shopping part yet. This is me. Every. Single. Year. I even plan out the map of the stores I need to visit at the Toronto Eaton Centre to know exactly how much time I can get in and out with everything I need. Am I the only one who does this?!
Finding the perfect gift for someone is what it’s all about.
While I love shopping, in all of its forms, I deplore feeling claustrophobic in a mall and waiting ridiculous times in line just to spend money. I try to avoid it at all costs. But finding the perfect gift for my friends and family is so important to me. I don’t want to gift just anything.
The Chef and the Dish Makes for the Perfect Present
What’s the Chef and the Dish you ask?! Let me share an awesome culinary experience that I had with you, and how I came to discover this seriously cool company.
You may recall from my videos and photos on Instagram a couple weeks ago; The Gourmet Food & Wine Expo (GFWE) that I attended. The GFWE is an annual event that brings together progressive and creative foodie minds of all kinds. From restaurants who’re set up with a booth, to vineyards in town from Niagara, to cooking lessons and food & wine sampling… What’s not to love?!
The best experience I had at the Gourmet Food and Wine Expo was a cooking class hosted by The Chef and The Dish. It was awesome! This was no ordinary cooking class, though!
We skyped in an incredible chef from Italy, who was coming to us live from a small town just north of Milan; Chef Paola. She was in her kitchen, and we were in ours (thanks GFWE), and together we made the same meal, at the same time, with the same authentic Italian ingredients. The whole experience was just that; authentic.
An amazing cultural experience, right from home.
While I was sitting in the crowd, smiling ear to ear as we interacted with Chef Paola, it clicked. This would make the perfect gift this Christmas!
How awesome would it be to cook with a Michelin star chef, from across the world, who is literally with you in your kitchen, guiding you to cook the way they cook?! Part of the experience includes a pre-skype meeting where you get introduced, and cover off all the ingredients you’d need for your cooking lesson. And come time for the big day, the chef of your choice not only cooks the same meal as you, but they teach you about the culture and customs of their country/city, as it relates to food.
Chefs from Italy to Tokyo, to New Orleans and Spain.
I don’t know about you, but getting to cook with a top chef from across the world, in your own kitchen, sounds pretty awesome to me. As a professional homebody, not having to leave my kitchen AND enjoying a personal lesson from a top chef = heaven. Plus, it sure beats mall mania, getting shoved by angry Christmas shoppers (me), and waiting in lines just to buy a mediocre gift.
