So I recently acquired these awesome goodies from the Toronto Fairmont Royal York Hotel after a quick stop-off!
I was visiting one of their meeting rooms as a potential venue for a work event and left with a goody bag filled with: lavender bath salts, gourmet honey lavender tea and my favorite item; special Fairmont Royal York Honey, made from the bees in their very own bee apiaries! That’s right! I never knew before I picked up this jar but the Toronto Fairmont Royal York Hotel is home to more than 20 honeybee apiaries!
They were all installed after 2008, when the hotel saw an opportunity to help combat “colony collapse disorder”. Interestingly, the Fairmont was the first luxury brand hotel to install bee apiaries on their rooftop gardens, however, are now seen as the pioneers and front runners in this space.
I actually love the idea,
As it offers the hotel chefs a means of harvesting local honey to serve in their restaurants, tea-rooms and even their signature Library Bar. I’ve yet to order one, but they supposedly have a “buzz-tini” on their menu with a key ingredient sourced from their very own colonies of honeybees!
I DID use the honey for making several perfect cups of tea while soaking in a nice warm lavender scented baths! And as the winter months begin to approach, I’ll definitely be in need of a second dose! The pair of honey and tea actually make the cutest stocking stuffers if you’re still looking for ideas!
