Hey friends, let’s talk milk for a second, shall we?
First, like many of you, I grew up on milk. I had it with my cereal for breakfast, as a to-go carton at school, and even as an after-school snack sometimes. As I entered my later teens and started playing sports and working out, I’d have it as a post-workout drink for nourishment. And, as for many of you too, it became a household staple.
Recently, however, milk has been catching a lot of heat in the media, for several reasons. And the more we start to experiment with vegan dishes and recipes at home, the more people are starting to look for milk substitutes.
That being said, there are a ton of pros to drinking milk.
The first being, drinking it to help build muscle. As many of you know, I’m currently training for my second full marathon later this year, and a post-workout nourishing drink or snack is essential to refueling. I do use some vegan protein based powder to add to my smoothies, but most times after a weight lifting / training session, I drink milk! I recently picked up some of Natrel’s new On the Go products which are great for exactly that!
Milk has two types of protein:
- Whey protein, which is also considered to be the “quick protein”, because it nourishes your muscles very quickly after a workout.
- Casein protein, or “slow protein” which nourishes your muscles for hours after you drink it. This is great for those who workout in the evening, as the casein protein will nourish your muscles with protein well into the next morning.
Cereal is one of my favourite foods! It’s pretty much in its own food category for me!
I can eat cereal dry, as a snack, in the mornings for breakfast or even after a good workout in the evenings. Add some fresh berries, or top it onto some crunchy granola and… muah! So delish! A nice whole-grain or whole-wheat cereal with berries and milk (in this case: Natrel’s 2% Lactose Free, On the Go) is THE perfect post-workout snack for me! I love the great taste of milk, and the lactose-free option is great to avoid discomfort.
And of course, we can’t forget about the classic: milk & cookies!
Recently, my mom baked these biscotti and I just couldn’t resist tucking in. We all treat ourselves from time to time, right?! Well, I actually found the perfect pairing for these choco-dipped mini biscotti; Natrel’s On the Go, Iced Mocha & 100% arabica coffee extract! The pairing is SO good for all my fellow coffee and chocolate lovers out there; this is a new match made in heaven! 🙂
