Matcha isn’t for everyone. I will say that. But the matcha lovers that I know (including myself), REALLY love it – particularly in latte format. I don’t think it’s a flavour you can be indifferent about.
I’ve had matcha flavoured KitKat bars and I loved them. There was also one summer I couldn’t pass by a Starbucks without ordering an iced matcha latte… I can still taste it! And then there’s matcha flavoured iced cream which is always a hit on a sushi night out.
Matcha pairs really well with flavours like vanilla and white chocolate. It also tastes really great when you mix it with a creamy, thick, milk or milk substitute. If you’re looking for a great dairy-free option, this matcha latte recipe is made with oat milk–my favourite of the non-dairy options.
The recipe to make matcha lattes yourself at home is quite simple. You’ll simply need a cup or a mug, premium matcha, a tea whisk, some boiled water, and some very hot (or boiled) oat milk. The tea whisk is probably the most complicated item to find but even then you can order one on Amazon or David’s Tea, I’m sure.
Here’s a great video link on YouTube to watch how to make matcha lattes:
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp premium organic matcha
- 1 oz boiling water
- 250 ml of very hot (or boiling) oat milk
Directions:
- Over stovetop, bring 1 cup of oat milk to a boil and immediately turn off heat. On a separate burner, bring a little less than a cup of water to a boil (you’ll only need about an ounce).
- In a mug, add 1 tsp of your premium matcha tea powder.
- Next add an ounce of boiling water and mix together thoroughly using your tea whisk.
- Once combined, pour in your boiled oat milk.
- Optional: using an electronic frother, froth until matcha latte reaches your desired texture.
Serve and enjoy!
