So, funny story –
My friends were over at my place recently and made a couple jokes about how, EVERY time they visit, they notice a new bottle of fancy olive oil (rolls eyes). Each time a different bottle.
It got me thinking… While I do like to try new things, I think we all kind of gravitate towards the foods we like most. Right? I do have a couple of “staples” inside my pantry though, i.e., foods with which my kitchen is always stocked, and quality olive oil is certainly one of them!
Inside My Pantry | 5 Savoury Essentials
#1 | Olive Oils
I honestly don’t know what it is, but it seems like the heartmate and I go through olive oil by the gallon!
I think because we cook so many vegetables, both on the stovetop and in the oven… whether it’s sweet potato fries, or baked bockchoy & greens, olive oil is DEFINITELY a must-have to pull out all the flavours.
I just got this exquisite new bottle of extra virgin olive oil, Italian import, from Curati – an online shop of experts who curate foods for food-obsessed people, like you and I!
#2 | Dark Chocolate
Another staple inside my pantry that I can NEVER get enough of – dark chocolate!
This was a great find that I happened to find on Curati also!
The brand is called Hummingbird Chocolate, the flavour I got was the Hispaniola, and it is d-i-v-i-n-e! It’s vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, fairtrade and ethical. I also love that it’s made in Canada! The best part though; the ingredients are pure, with no preservatives!
It tastes bittersweet, with hints of raisin and cherry, and the texture is creamy/smooth. I quite like this brand actually, and I’ll likely be stocking my pantry with WAY more of it!
#3 | Quality Fine Teas
Haven’t you ever felt like a cup of tea could solve all your problems?
My friends like to tease on this subject, too. Whenever they come over, I’m like an old English grandma who pulls out the box (re: crate) of teas, varieties from floor to ceiling!
I can’t help it – I just love tea!
A brand I have a strong affinity for is Canadian-based, Sloane Fine Tea Merchants.
Many of you might be familiar with the brand by now, I’m sure, but their flavours are so bold, and honestly, really unlike other teas I’ve had. I swear the difference in taste and quality is noticeable.
I would say that I gravitate to green teas the most, particularly jasmines or japanese greens, but Sloane has this one flavour – Heavenly Cream, a black tea that I am in loooooooove with!
All that said, having a variety of fine teas in your pantry, is a nice touch for serving guests, and satisfying your inner tea-nut – like me!
The next two pantry staples are all about that crunch!
#4 | Coconut Chips
The first, are these delicious coconut chips from Rawcology! They’re organic, nut-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, and also high in fiber!
I recently got to taste all four flavours:
- Rockin’ Ranch,
- Smoky Cheeze,
- Matcha Latte,
- And Chocolate!
My heartmate and I are both chocoholics, so our favourite was naturally the chocolate flavour with raw cacao & cinnamon! I added them to my smoothie bowls, or just ate them like chips!
#5 | Baked Pita Chips
My friends and family will tell you that I LIVE for crunchy foods.
Give me a bag of chips, and I’ll crush it in two seconds. Done.
That said, I don’t always care for the after-effects of eating a bag of chips lol!
About a month or two ago, I came across these super crunchy (yay!), vegan pita chips by Whole Foods Market 365 brand. I think a few of you may have seen it on my instagram feed not long ago.
I decided to include them in this roundup because the heartmate and myself have been munching on them ever since! We’ve gone back to Whole Foods to get bag after bag after bag, and we could still eat more of them today!
They’re a nice alternative to chips, mostly because they’re baked, not fried. They’re lighter, and don’t leave you feeling sluggish for hours after you finish them – a total win in my books!
What are some of your favourite pantry items?!
There are the basics like pastas, flours, and cereals/oatmeals, but I wanna know the FUN ONES!
