No seriously, try meditating.
I’m just kidding! Who really has the time for meditation?!
It’s HARD! I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve tried meditating in an attempt to “be more mindful”.
If you’re like me, you’ve got a busy schedule. Between my full time job as a digital marketer, and my blog (+ everything that comes with it, re: creating content, editing, social media, event attending…) sometimes it seems like I don’t have much time for myself, let alone adding something new into the mix, like meditating.
Mindfulness, meditation, and staying active have always been top of mind for me.
My friends call it “being a perfectionist”, and they may be right (don’t tell them I said that), but to some degree.
What I’ve learned recently though, is that perfection truly does not exist. It’s a perception. So when I say that mindfulness and staying active have always been top of mind for me, I’m simply striving to better myself. NOT trying to achieve perfection.
Fitness doesn’t start in the gym. And it doesn’t start on our plates, either.
I know I share a lot of inspiration on healthy eating and recipes. When it comes to fitness, though, in my experience, it really does begin in the mind. It all starts with a mind-shift.
And whether you have a hectic or a calm schedule, being mindful and staying fit only happen if you MAKE time for both.
The kicker? I sneak both fitness and mindfulness into one session.
Every morning, I MAKE time to get my favourite yoga moves in (i.e., the only ones I remember from my yoga classes LOL!). But I make the time, every, single, morning. And I use that time for meditation, to clear my mind, focus on my breathing, and envision the life I want. (Cheesy, I know, but it works!)
Wake up one hour earlier than you normally would, and just stretch. Let the blood flow to your whole body, and see what kind of an effect it has on you.
For me, my productivity levels skyrocket throughout the day. I no longer need coffee in the morning. And oddly enough, I snack less between meals.
Listen, like I said, I have a busy schedule, like many of you I’m sure. It’s not an excuse though, and it shouldn’t be for you, either. If an hour is too much of a commitment, do half. Hell, make 20 minutes work for you if you can.
Those 20 minutes will be better than the 0 minutes you previously set aside.
Looking for a place to start? I recently teamed up with the folks at Joe Fresh to bring you The Seven Moves I Do Every Day to Stay Fit & Mindful All Year Round. I’m wearing pieces from their Active line collection, which is currently available in stores.
PS – The Joe Fresh Active line clothing is actually so comfy, and practical for my workouts too, it’s crazy. I wore one outfit to my yoga class, and all I wanted to do was wear it on repeat! Though if I did, I’m sure the other yogis wouldn’t want to sit next to me anymore 😉
Checkout these Seven Workout Moves I do to Stay Fit All Year Round and let me know what you think! I’m always interested in hearing from you!
