And not the “oh those sneakers are tight” kind of tight. More like, our bed frame doesn’t fit in the bedroom because the walls are closing in, kind of tight.
I promise, I’m not complaining. My heartmate and I actually feel blessed that we happened to find the place we live in now, after having spent months searching, and looking at over 40 other condos!
At the end of the day though, 900 sqft. can feel a little a tad confined for two fully grown, 6ft tall men. And let’s not forget about our additional 5 lbs of fury, i.e., @zsazsathechihuahua.
Let’s also not forget about all that comes with the joys of owning animals, i.e., cleaning up after them.
Here’s the context; my heartmate and I are both full time professionals. Nine to five is our jam. And while we’re lucky to have flexible schedules, in that we can work from home whenever we like, regardless of the workplace, the point is that time is a luxury. Particularly time used to clean our condo.
We’ve talked about hiring a nanny, but contemplate the value, as well as having someone in our personal space. And, when it comes down to it, if we share the work, cleaning the condo is a job that we can collectively get done in only an hour or so.
Most people figure, a good cleaning job on Saturday or Sunday mornings, get it done and get it out of the way. Right?
Well, having a dog, or any pet for that matter, changes things.
I honestly feel like even after a FULL cleaning job, i.e., dusting, windexing, bathrooms scrubbed, floors vacuumed, and washed, and everything put in order… a couple hours later, it’s like I need to re-vacuum!
It boggles my mind that I used to think sweeping my floors
with a broom was good enough.
But after chatting with a bunch of friends, I found that a lot of them kept coming back to owning a Dyson. Seemed like I wasn’t the only yuppie to have one and rely on it for full house cleaning.
If I’m being fully honest here, the heartmate and I probably clean our place 1-2 times per week. Which NEVER seems like enough. But we’re busy guys! Think of all the things that come up in a week:
- Work full time
- Evening blog events interspersed throughout the week
- Making dinners
- Going to the gym / yoga studio
- Nights out/in with friends
- Date nights
- FaceTime calls with family
While in a dream world I’d have a fully vacuumed house every day, in reality, it’s just not possible.
I acquired a Dyson V8 Animal recently, and I’m honestly NEVER going back to any other cleaning option.
I know, that I’m personally happiest when everything at home is clean and in order. Call me a perfectionist, despite my continuous efforts of excavating that word from my vocabulary, I know deep down that I am one – with certain things.
A feature of the Dyson that I really appreciate, is that it comes with attachments made specifically for different areas of the home. They even sell an attachment made for brushing dogs! (hello!)
From cleaning the floors, to reaching high up shelves, dusting and cleaning is an entirely new and revamped process for me at home.
The best part is, I used to own an older Dyson model that ran on full battery for about 12-15 minutes, but my new model (V8 Animal) runs for 40mins!!!! Ideal for condo living, because who even wants to be cleaning for more than that anyway, right?
Something that would break my heart when we used to vacuum with other or older models, was how much the noise would freak out the dog. But the photo you see of Zsa Zsa on the couch and the vacuum running, is substantial proof of the reduced noise on the newer models. He doesn’t even jitter!
The part that really transforms cleaning though, is the whole machine filtration – which captures allergens and expels clean air! The filter is redesigned specifically for this and is standard for all V8 models. Crazy, eh?!
I never thought of myself as a house-cleaning enthusiast (how funny is that title?!), but I legitimately am now. Vacuuming is a breeze, and I love-love-love that I can get a better hand on the dog hair that gets shed every. single. day.
I’ve already personally recommended this vacuum to a bunch of my friends at work (they see me as a cleaning enthusiast now, too lol!). But to my surprise, many of them already had some version of a Dyson, which is pretty cool.
No clue how I used to “transform cleaning” with my old broom and mop, but curious to know about your experiences! Do any of you own a Dyson?! What are some of the tricks you have for keeping your condo/home clean with animals?
