FOOD REVIEW | Weeks ago, a friend of mine invited me and S to brunch, and suggested we try Wish Restaurant in Yorkville.
Little did I know of this restaurant, or that I would be having THE most delicious brunch item on the menu! For me, brunch usually entails a cup of coffee, and some version of either eggs benedict or a classic diner style brunch, i.e., eggs, bacon, toast.. etc. But with my friend ordering the smashed avocado toast, and S ordering the challah french toast with blueberries and caramelized bananas… I was feeling adventurous and opted for something different.
Wish Toronto’s “Eggs in Purgatory” dish is your next Sunday brunch must-have!
The Eggs in Purgatory offers two soft poached eggs, baked in a warm stew of peppers, chilis and tomatoes. It also comes infused with scamorza cheese and topped with grilled baguette morsels. Let me just say this, it was divine! This combination of flavours was unlike any other item on the menu. I know it sounds like I’m really playing it up here, but trust me… add it to your Wish List! 😉
Naturally I dug my fork and knife into S’ challah french toast for a bite (or two), which also did not disappoint! Each bite had near perfect texture and was packed with flavour, plus, it came served with Drip Maple Syrup – 100% Organic & Canadian-made. This made the dish, absolute french-toast heaven!
Oh and did I mention Wish Toronto’s Patio/Terrace?!
This is actually a funny debate that we had over our meal. I want to know, do you call it a patio or a terrace? Being from Montreal, the three of us all call it a terrace! After living in Toronto for over two years now, none of us have been assimilated enough to start calling it a patio! Regardless of the name, Wish Restaurant’s terrace is absolutely charming! The patio alone is worth a visit! The wood tables, natural lighting and Canadian cabin feel all add to its charm. And in the cooler months, it’s heated! How perfect for those early spring days and cooler fall weekends to enjoy over brunch with friends!?!
For now, I leave you on a happy Sunday, and with the question: Patio or Terrace? Let me know which one you say and which one get’s under your skin in the comments section below!
